About the Book

John R. “Jack” Cassady is an artist, cartoonist, writer, art director, adventurer and retired Army Lt. Col. He’s a regular contributor to Heartland Boating Magazine, and his graphic humor has been seen in hundreds of US and international publications.

In the late 80’s Cassady produced and hosted the public television series, Funny Business, the Art in Cartooning. The series ran for several years and aired in 38 states.

Cassady produces a weekly internet/email feature called The MONDAY FUNNIES while managing a distance learning program for aspiring cartoonists.

Jack was born and raised in Florida during the pre-Disney World epoch. Later he earned his BA and MA degrees from Furman University in Greenville, SC and a second MA in Illustration & Design from the University of Memphis.

He served 22 years in the Army during the cold war and the war in SE Asia with a background and training in special operations and unconventional warfare. He’s a decorated Army Ranger, Green Beret (SF), Master Parachutist and Jumpmaster with combat star. He earned parachute wings from Germany, Vietnam, Laos and France and has over 1100 parachute jumps.

Cassady teaches part-time at the J.C. Campbell Folk School and maintains his virtual studio online at www.ToonMaker.com. He lives and works with his wife of 26 years in the hills of western NC with two guard dogs and three attack cats.
