About the Book

Sneha Biswas’s poems are spun around deep and scarred stories of emotionally distraught characters trapped in real lifelike and complex circumstances. This is her first published work, a collection of poems—most of which she drew from her own memories of personal experiences. “The Dilemma of a Bengali American Immigrant” expresses individuals’ internal crisis while traversing between cultures; one that is deep-rooted, and another that is adopted over the years living in exile in a foreign country. “Gossip Mongers of the District of Si” gives real-life instances of petty women who engage in slanderous activities. A stay-at-home mother faces many challenges in bringing her daughters up and fights to claim her own identity back in “Misha’s Identity Now that of a Mother.” Misha’s wrenching tale showcases her immense strength and endurance while trying to survive an already-failed marriage. A woman’s lingering nostalgia of the past that still haunts her present sometimes can be seen in “Rashi’s One and Only Love Rahel.” It is a poignant work that will move you to the point of almost breaking you down. In “A Dusky Beauty Named Devi,” she celebrates the freedom-loving dark-skinned beauty who appears to be aging in reverse. Her uniquely different characteristics are what sets her apart from her contemporaries. In “In the Gossamer Imagination,” we get to peek into the lustful mind of a woman. “Neha in Heaven Found” is of an unhappy, neglected wife who finds new interest in her husband’s friend as she secretly covets him in her heart. The events that follow thereafter will almost blow your mind.

About the Author

Sneha Biswas was born and raised in Kolkata, India to Bengali parents. She was convent educated and completed her higher studies in English Literature from one of Kolkata’s reputed institutions, the Presidency College. She moved with her husband to the United States in 2015 and soon after gave birth to her daughter, Tiara. Living in Seattle, she often undergoes sudden bouts of homesickness and in her frequent visits to India she resumes her old connection to her soil.
