The fishing lures that did not have the beautiful view of the Northwoods enjoyed hearing the sounds of nature around them. The echoing calls from black and white loons as they swam across the water. The high-pitched giggles of bald eagles sitting in their huge, woody nests. The beaver's thick tail slapping mud in the openings of his dam, and the lake water popping as the bass were snatching insects from the surface. "Here we go!" Bucky Bucktail said cheerfully. "We are back on the water. I hope you each took time off-season to rest and review last year's troubles so that you can improve your number of catches this fishing season." "Listen, Bucky," replied a sneaky suick named Suki, "We hope you have learned how to shake the weeds loose and dry off when you are done fishing so that you don't stink when you come back into our box.” The other fishing lures shook by their hooks as they chuckled at Suki's slight dig at Bucky. It was true. Bucky had an awful smell he could not seem to shake, but he was nearly perfect in every other way. He was so good at fishing that the man in the boat called him a "great lure that does the job well.” The fishing lures in the box were so focused on the chatter between these two baits that they didn't notice a new lure as it was plopped down into the tackle box.

Sammy Spinner, an eager fishing bait, gets plopped into a tackle box alongside Bucky Bucktail, Francis Frog, and Suki Suick with one goal, to catch big fish. He sees shores lined with pine trees and large loons swimming on the water. He hears giggling eagles sitting in woody nests and beavers’ thick tails building dams. Sammy believes he is well-prepared to get a fish into the red boat. However, he quickly learns catching fish that live in Northwoods Lakes could take thousands of casts. Sammy is dragged through chilly water filled with long grasses, slimy weeds, sunken logs, and lily pads that hide all types and sizes of fish. Sammy just cannot seem to catch one! Can the lures from Tackle Box Troubles teach Sammy fishing tips and a proper figure 8 to give him a better chance of catching and releasing a big fish this summer?

Susan Duke enjoys life most on the water during the summer. She is a devoted special education teacher in Northbrook, Illinois, and lives in McHenry County. She loves traveling to the Northwoods of Wisconsin every summer to spend time fishing with her husband, Adam, and their dogs. Hours of time fishing, and interesting experiences on the water, gave Susan the idea of creating fun stories about fishing lures getting into trouble both in and out of the water.
