About the Book

This book has been 12 years in the making, yet it is challenging for me to succinctly convey how I wish it to be perceived. In general, it is a story of transformation. Growing up as a Black girl in the southern suburbs, I often felt out of place and bewildered about my role in society. My mother noticed my need for an outlet and handed me my first journal. As I filled its pages with my emotions in ink, iPhones were invented, and I found myself using my note app for poems that explored my journey of self-perception, identity formation, love, and community. However, for those readers who only skim the first and last sentence of a paragraph, this book is about learning to embrace all aspects of yourself, including those that may be difficult to love.

About the Author

Peace and Blessings. I am Korri Palmer (she/her), a poet hailing from the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia. My poetic journey commenced as a means of catharsis in the 7th grade, when I discovered that journaling felt too arduous. As I nurtured my self-confidence, I took my first steps onto the stage of spoken word at the age of eighteen. The majority of my poems delve into the intricate web of love, self-discovery, and the battles within the mind. These themes are intricately woven with my Black feminine identity. While I write primarily for my own sake, I share my art with those who fear that their raw vulnerability might not find acceptance. In my readings, you are not only seen but also cherished and heard, imperfections and all.
