About the Book

Last Chance For Redemption is the story of Cory Masterson who agreed to take in Jerry Swain at the behest of Josh Billings who thought he saw in Jerry more than a delinquent boy. Picked up with a group of skinheads with whom he’d stayed after quitting school and running away from his grandparents, Jerry is saved from time in a juvenile correctional facility by Josh’s intercession. Living with Cory Masterson and his wife Sue puts both the Mastersons and Jerry at odds frequently.

Cory and Sue never learn about Jerry’s incestuous relationship with his mother but what they observe from day to day tests their patience and commitment to this rebellious youth. When several angry schoolmates throw Jerry from a moving bus after he has flaunted his skinhead attitude at school, Jerry on the road to recovery begins to question his own ideas especially when he finds both Cory and Sue at his bedside as he heals.

However, Jerry again becomes openly rebellious when Cory brings a black ex-con and Vietnam veteran, Zachary Washington, into his home to help him establish a business and to fulfill his own ambition to give Sue a horse and to buy a mustang for himself. Zach had been in the in-mate program at the Canon City correctional facility in Colorado where he had worked with mustangs gathered by the Bureau of Land Management for later auction. One of the things that Jerry could not forget was his mother being picked up with some Blacks during a drug bust. His reconciliation with Zach came slowly with Jerry learning some hard lessons.

Jerry’s life with the Masterson’s seemed like days of continuous conflict until he meets Lin who gave him back a life.

About the Author

Hugh Matson retired from the Army in 1972 as a Lieutenant Colonel after tours of duty in Korea, Germany, the USSR and South Vietnam. He retired from business in 1996 as a McDonald’s franchisee. He now lives in Gansevoort, New York on seven acres of land with his companion, a Neopolitan Mastiff, and three cats. This is the fifth novel in the Crescent Hills series.
