About the Book
My late husband, Rev. Arthur E. Barkley, preached these sermons as a young evangelist sixty to seventy years ago. They are typical sermons of that period.
Since then almost everything has changed. People have changed; music has changed; sermons have changed. Some things for the better perhaps. Too many Christians, however, have joined the world in its attempt to minimize sin, deify man, humanize God, and air condition hell.
Today we seldom hear such Scriptural terms as 1. Sin—except to excuse it 2. Carnality 3. Judgment 4. Heart purity 5. Holiness 6. The Holy Spirit 7. Hell—except in profanity 8. Heaven—except at funerals.
Many of us long for the old fashioned gospel messages that proved so effective in years gone by. With its inspiring, provocative, and cautionary insights into the Word, this book helps to meet that need.
