About the Book
“Trilogy of Love: Three short stories of Life, Deceit, Friendship and Love” is a set of short stories each differing from the others in plot but carrying similar themes. These themes, bring the focus onto the humanity of the characters.
“The Other Me” tells the story of Jonathon and Brenda, who met under unusual circumstances. Brenda a reconstructive surgeon, worked on Jonathon’s face; Brenda made him look like someone she had loved in the past, Mitch, Brenda did not know why. Two years after the surgery Jonathon and Brenda married and all went well until Jonathon found himself beat up and left for dead in the desert. At this time Mitch (posing as Jonathon) arranges for Brenda to meet him in Lake Tahoe for their anniversary, Brenda is happy and excited to go, then the plot thickens and Jonathon attempts to rescue Brenda, chaos and violence develops and Brenda has to decide who to rescue as both men are hanging from a cliff. A life and death situation.
“R&R” tells the story of Robert on leave on a “Rest and Recuperation” week in Sydney Australia during his tour from the Vietnam war. On the plane Robert makes friends with Jerry and they decide to hang out together and party while on R&R. Robert did not want to pay for sex, although it was a common practice of G.I.’s on leave. Robert is propositioned there but refuses to give in. Robert spends his week over indulging himself with liquor and marijuana, bar hoping, causing mischief and searching for a special woman. On his last night, Robert meets a beautiful woman, Marilynn, and falls head over heels for her. The chemistry is strong between them but as it turns out she is unhappily married. The hidden infatuation for one another is kept between them although Robert has to return to Vietnam and the U.S.A. Twenty years later, when Robert is now a widower, he writes his story of his exploits in Australia and his brief love affair. As the story is published his far-away fantasy lover reads it and comes to America to find Robert.
Finally, “A Love Story: East L.A. details the dating and courtship of James and Denine. The story begins with James and his daughter Samantha visiting a gravesite. James flashes back to high school as a senior when he meets Samantha’s mother Denine and the events that occurred that influenced his life and the lives of Denine, his friendships and family. After James graduation and his affair with Denine continued, she becomes pregnant. Reluctant to hastily marry, miscommunication develops between them and Denine runs off to marry James rival/best friend Paul. James gets Denine back, they marry and Samantha is born. James and Paul encounter one another while serving in the ARMY during the Vietnam conflict. During the TET offensive, Paul saves James life. The scenario at the cemetery unfolds after the reader is informed that Denine and her close sister had been involved in automobile accident going to see James in the hospital due to his wounds he received when Paul saved his life. James, Samantha and other family and friends gather at the gravesite in memory of the departed one. Finally the headstone reveals the occupant of the grave.
In “Trilogy of Love” these three short stories of life deceit, friendship and love tells three different types of life’s agendas. It focuses on, the first, mistaken identity, the second is a more personal one; written in the first person; the third is a somewhat familiar love story with a twist at the end. The common theme in all the stories is love, the couples surviving at the end.

About the Author
Author was born and raised in East Los Angeles. Was a recipient of the Purple-Heart and Bronze Star for wounds and service in Vietnam. Earned a Counseling Degree at Pacific Oaks College and was a Director of a Drug Treatment program in El Sereno, California. Currently is semi-retired with grandfather obligations and continues to write.
