About the Book
The story revolves around Gene Martin, born on a stormy night in January, 1924. He was raised in a large, close-knit family; great granddad Dan, great grandmother Kay, granddad Jake, aunt Kate, Sue, Terry, and my grandmother June, his dad little Jake and mother Maria—these people comprised of his my main family, the people who had shaped his early life. The first half of the book actually tells of the life of Gene’s forebears, and how they established themselves in the town they settled in. When Gene meets Barber in the first grade, this is where the seed of their budding romance is planted. Readers who have a penchant for a wholesome story filled with family, relationships, and slice-of-life situations will appreciate One Red Rose. It is not a romance novel in the conventional sense, but love is present in the stories, in many forms and in different situations. Follow Gene, Barber and his family as they make their way through a love-filled life.
