About the Author
Jim came from Cagayan de Oro City, the southern part of the Philippines. He completed his seminary training at Doane Baptist Seminary in Iloilo City, Philippines, in 1978. He then came to the United States in 1983. After two years, he started a church in San Jose, California. He took his graduate studies at the Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, Liberty University, in Lynchburg, Virginia, and completed his master’s degree in 1996. At this writing, Jim is a pastor of Filipino International Baptist Church in Elk Grove, California, and a missionary with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE). Jim has planted a few churches in Northern California. At the same time, Jim engaged in chaplaincy work at the West Valley Medical Center in San Jose and the Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento and then worked as an assistant chaplain for years. Jim started his training for clinical pastoral education with HCMA and completed it in 2005. He added another unit of CPE at UC Davis Medical Center in 2006. He did his internship at South Kaiser, Sacramento, California, and is a board certified chaplain (BCC) with HCMA. He has completed his one-year residency at UC Davis Medical Center, in Sacramento, in 2012. Jim is married to Carol Vasquez-Garcines for over thirty years, and they are blessed with two children—Jica and Jeriah, both graduates of Bob Jones University.
