About the Book

More Travels: India, Africa and Australia in Art and Poetry. Returning from overseas and still searching for direction, Julie Vincent heads north and explores the wonders of Australia’s top end before heading to India and Africa.

This book follows on from Travels Within: Art and Poetry, which explores the intimate journey of completing a PhD while escaping domestic violence. The art began, having banned herself from writing poetry that resulted in twenty-five art exhibitions with poetry in the six months before submitting my doctoral thesis.

Travels Without: My Fabulous Adventures Europe and America in Art and Poetry. Having submitted and equipped with paper and pastels, Julies escapade to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Venice, six weeks in Italy, Spain, Belgium, New York, New Orleans, and London are recorded in art and poetry.

About the Author

Julie is an artist, poet, singer, song writer, PhD, and given the opportunity, a performer.

She finished her PhD in social theory on mental health services at the University of Melbourne and traveled the world, creating art and poetry as she went. She came back and traveled across the top end, creating songs, poems, and artworks en route. She lectured at Newcastle University School of Nursing and volunteered in orphanages in India and a health project in Uganda and went to the World Social Forum in Nairobi. In 2008, she was in an accident that nearly killed her and saved her life. She had a spiritual experience and married an aboriginal man and found herself in Alice Springs, volunteering with indigenous kids!
