This book is about a woman’s struggle to make it in America after migrating from Guyana in South America. It deals with issues that she had to overcome to survive in Brooklyn, New York. The stories are all true, but names have been changed to protect the identities of relatives and close friends. The events take place in urban settings, and they are not typical of all immigrants. The book shows that anyone can overcome adversity if he or she is determined to work hard and remain focused on personal goals. Queen Hadassah

About the Author

My name is Queen Hadassah, and I was born on October 15, 1954, in my father’s house in the little South American village of Victoria, Guyana. Victoria is on the east coast of Demerara in Guyana. I knew that I’m a valued person. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I’m somebody. And God has proven that by caring for me through all these years. This is my story.
