Shining Through: My Journey with incontinentia pigmenti is a heartwarming children’s book about an eight-year-old little girl named Miah who was born with a rare skin condition that has impacted her life. It talks about her physical symptoms and the tests she gets regularly, and it also describes her developmental delays. This condition occurs mostly in females and is lethal in males. It is passed from mother to daughter but if passed to male, the pregnancy is likely to end in a miscarriage. Her mother does not have this gene and her a father cannot pass it to her. How was she born with it? There are many questions that run through her parent’s minds since her mom had an amazing pregnancy without any complications. With much research and education and many different doctors’ appointments, it has helped her parents ensure Miah is able to get the best care. Miah’s parents learn how unique she is, and they are extremely proud of her ability to stand out and very proud of who she is becoming. She demonstrates self-love, acceptance, and perseverance. Being different is not something to be ashamed of, embracing your uniqueness is powerful.

About the Author

Fairren was born in Saint Joseph, Michigan and raised in Elkhart, IN. After graduating high school, she relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana to continue her studies where she met her husband. She is a graduate of Trine University, located in Fort Wayne, IN where she earned a Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership. She is a loving wife and mother of two beautiful children. Her faith in God keeps her anchored and gives her the strength to keep moving forward in life. She is passionate about helping others, and it brings her great joy to be able to take the burden off my loved one’s shoulders and she will do anything to enhance that. The love she has for her family is contagious and she cannot help but to radiate it onto to anyone that she cross paths with. She is the only girl of three brothers and is the second oldest but somehow, she thinks she is the boss of them. When she is not with spending time with her loved ones, she enjoys traveling with her friends. So far, her favorite place she has visited is Dubai. She believes it is important to find time to rest, reset, and refocus. She believes you cannot pour from an empty cup. She fills her cup up so she can overflow into the lives of others.
