About the Author

Doris Johnson was born in Chicago as the seventh of thirteen siblings and the middle daughter of Lawrence and Bessie Smith. She has been writing since she was very young. Fulfilling her father’s dream, she became the first member of her immediate family to graduate from college. She has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Loyola University of Chicago and a Master’s degree in Education from Mount St. Mary’s College. She has worked as a Curriculum and Literacy Design Coach, taught Writing, and English Literature for the past eighteen years in the Los Angeles County Schools.
