About the Book

Take a journey of imagination to many places! Start with a young boy in a small town as he experiences the fun, the fear and the reality of growing up with a loving mother, a large family and father who at times is prone to violence. Who says Santa Claus is a man? Help a small over-imaginative boy before a ´killer´ finds him. Say hello to Abigail! She´s been dead for a long long time. There was a time when some folks thought left-handed people were evil but being a six year old boy on his first days at school is challenging enough without being left-handed too? Live through a plane crash with a group of very special survivors or help catch a bank robbing genius who is outsmarted by a small boy in a small town. Travel far into outerspace with an unusual astronaut. Play detective and go along with the police of the future as they chase a killer. But beware, there is a time and place somewhere in the future where individual imagination is against the law! A young girl finds her destiny after being nudged onto a path of greatness she never thought she could take. Talk to a three hundred year old Ghost as a mystery just as old is solved or witness the end of the world two different ways. The stories came from the mind of this new author and now they await you. It´s all inside The Crossroads.

Brenda, November 25, 2002,

Great, Entertaining and Easy Reading Book! I was truly surprised at the quality of this book. The stories were wonderfully varied. The author has a tremendously entertaining cast of characters, and a very easy reading book. Some of the stories left me stunned. Theyleft me wondering about all the decisions I had made in my life. He also left me with a nice feeling of hope. Durst has a great mix of humor, sadness, hope and happiness in his stories. The book isn´t written for little children but it isn´t written only for geniuses either. Not all of the stories are appropriate for children so keep that in mind if you buy it but I found that the ones like ´The Goal, Survivor´s Club, Apocalypse, Judgment Day, The Old Zion Cemetary and Candy Bars´were great for me and my kids.´ I´d highly recommend it. He divides the book up with a small section of prose. At first I didn´t think that was a smart thing to do but now having read it twice, I like it and I find I like his prose as well. I look forward to his next book.

If you are looking for a book that will make you both laugh and cry at the same time, this is the book for you. Based on true stories and poetry from the author´s own life, as well as his keen imagination, this book will please everyone in one way or another. It is a tribute to a man who proves that one can succeed against all odds, by following this simple rule in life... You can do anything you want as long as you are willing to accept the consequences for your actions.

"That any choice is valid as long as one is willing to face the consequences is the simple message of "The Crossroads," the first book of fiction by New Milford resident, J. E. Durst. The message isn´t presented as a moral-it is too open-ended to be called prescriptive-but as a logical guide to life. When people come to crossroads, they must choose a direction and then deal with the results...."
