About the Book

The residents of LEISURE VILLAGE, an upscale retirement

complex, are shocked by four deaths in a period of five days.

Three of these were from natural causes but Rev. Lionel Lyle, the

beloved chaplain of the village, has been murdered.

This causes consternation, paranoia, and grief throughout the

resident population.

Mary Gillian, who considers herself the leading resident, is

disgusted by the slow progress in solving the crime.  She blames

the administrator and the police.  She casts about the identify

the murderer and after clearing the obvious suspects she decides

that Rita Mosburg is the most likely one to be charged.  Rita's

scandalous background, which Mary uncovers by stealing Rita's

diaries, and her effrontery in beating Mary out of a seat on the

Resident Council convince her that Rita had the means, motive,

and opportunity to commit the murder.  She talks the District

Attorney, Derrick Dean, one of her former students in to

arresting Rita.

Rita, in jail, realizes she is being framed and employs

Virgil Birdsong, a law school faculty member with a special

interest in murder.  He has great difficulty in solving the

murder.
