About the Book

This is a story of a Mexican boy and a Mexican-American girl. The boy right out of a Mexican barrio. When he met a girl, the daughter of an American baseball player and the descendant of an old and very rich Spanish Don, he fell in love. The boy never let the social difference interfere with his feelings and attitude toward the girl. He entered the United States and found out how Mexican wetbacks were treated; after one summer, he was sent back to Mexico. He finally returned to the U.S., but after five long years he realized he was still a wetback, and returned to his native Mexico.

About the Author

In the middle of a successful career in the United States, with his children grown, James Reay moved to Mexico to play tennis and write from notes collected from many parts of the world and over a span of half a century. Now making his home in San Diego, California, in his 92nd year he lives to have these books published; fulfilling a dream that began when he sent his short story to Wild West Magazine in 1927.
