Heroes to the End

Train Sets "Why do you play with train sets?" Asked an old hero's tiny granddaughter, Trembling he smiled:"to help me forget As his mind drifted back to the slaughter I once spent some time you see In a place a little bit warmer With some men who were Japanese In a land far away called Burma. He lovingly said to the child: "Do you like trains pet?" As through tears he smiled, "No granddad-do you like train sets?" Our Brave and Heroic So much is rightfully said Of our brave and heroic lost "The Glorious Dead" Who've sadly paid the ultimate cost And 'tis befitting to remember our fallen dead But why are our leaders so unforgiving And so quick as to forget Our brave and heroic living? Upon the Shores Upon the shores of sand and dune So many heroes there had been One summer's day in early June To put an end to an evil regime We remember so many heroes oh so brave Of such a sorrowful sombre war With every sorrowful sombre wave Which breaks upon the shores Once Upon a Time Once upon a time in war The war in which he fought He'd unbeknowingly sold himself And loneliness he'd bought The soldier who was once so bold Without shoes upon his feet Consumed by hunger and such cold Lay upon a windswept street And as Christmas snow didst fall The once proud soldier sadly died For no-one cared for him at all Once upon a time With Best Regards D W Stead "
