About the Book

This is an anthology of 23 new plays all written by student writers. It is a wide variety of short plays that were written over the course of one school year and presented at the annual One Act Play Festival. The school is not your everyday high school however; The Southern New Jersey Academy of the Performing Arts draws talented theatre and dance students from across 7 counties in the southern third of New Jersey. These students work every day in their major field developing their skills as writers, directors, and actors. Once they have appeared on the mainstage they are initiated as members of the Academy Repertory Theatre Company and work together much in the same way that a professional company does. Magnet Theatre Company is a resident theater company in Trenton, New Jersey and is in full time residence as the production company at the Academy. This book is the result of this collaboration between a performing arts high school and a professional theater company. The writing that you will find in this collection ranks right alongside the writing in one-act festivals at theaters all across the country. It will make you laugh, cry, and applaud when you are done. Enjoy this edition, hopefully it will be the first of many.
