About the Book

The Man From Somewhere Else is a classic small-town story.  It is set in the lush countryside of the Scottish Borders.

Who is the mysterious Ellison and where does he come from?

John and Peter are two ordinary boys with perhaps just a little bit more than the common amount of courage.  With a young person's sense of intuition they understand that Ellison is bad news for them and their mother.

Their mother is a widow, having lost her husband some years before.  Her life is one round of hard work to keep herself and her children respectable.  She takes a liking to the new stranger who is one of those strong, silent types we read so much about in romantic fiction.  He is not the love of her life because that person has been with her, lived and died.  But he has much to recommend him.  He is capable, caring towards her and her children and wants to settle down after a life on the move.

For John and Peter the news that mother is dedicated to Ellison is more than they can bear.  For they have found out a secret about the intruder.  This is no ordinary man they are dealing with, but someone who has come here to create havoc, not just with their own lives but those of everybody on the planet earth.

But before they can do anything they are enslaved in the power of a man who is more than  human but who will not free them…

Peter finds help from the most unexpected of sources - his dead father - and leads them all towards the path of freedom from The Man From Somewhere Else.

About the Author

Alexander Hawksville says: I am a community worker in my native Scotland. My main interest - or obsession some call it - is writing. I have numerous articles and short stories published in local magazines and newspapers. This latest story grew out of my twin interests - the Scottish countryside and science fiction. I decided to produce the two together. The countryside in the story is very much like that of my native county and the old ruins - some hundreds of years old - are real enough. When you think William Wallace and his men once trod these same byways it sends a shiver up your spine. I live in a small town not much bigger than the one in the story with my dear wife and two mad Irish Setters who rule me with a paw of iron. I am currently writing a series of linked short stories.
