About the Book

This book collects columns that appeared in The News-Herald and The Derrick between May 1998 and early 2001. These are the essays that made readers in Venango County laugh, argue, and think. They are a reminder that life is just as rich and smart and moving and funny in a small community as in any other corner of the world. Readers will find here a viewpoint that is both familiar and fresh, challenging and rewarding, presented by a voice that is both practical and thoughtful.

About the Author

Peter Greene has spent more than three decades in the Franklin Silver Cornet Band trombone section. A graduate of Allegheny College, he teaches English at Franklin Area High School. He can also be found playing jazz with the Bully Hill Brass Band, kayaking on the Allegheny River, and working in local theater. His previous books include Venango Tales and A Good Idea at the Time which collect many of his weekly columns from Venango Newspapers.
