About the Book
Jock and Lassie are West Highland Terriers who live with the author and her husband on Waiheke Island, which lies about twenty kilometres offshore from Auckland, New Zealand. The two dogs are brother and sister from the same litter. Lassie is usually the more cautious and wiser of the two, while Jock is rather reckless, typically getting himself into all sorts of scrapes. Of course, Jock rarely takes heed of his sister’s warnings and lands himself in all sorts of bother. This book tells the story of their first journey to Waiheke on the car ferry, the sights they see along the way and Jock’s misadventure when his curiosity about Waiheke’s sea life gets the better of him!
About the Author
Anne Hume had a long career as a science educator, including twenty-five years as a primary and secondary teacher, four years as a school evaluator, and twelve years as a university academic. During that time she produced a wide range of publications for students, teachers, and researchers in the field of science education. In 2017 she retired with her husband, Terry, to Waiheke Island. She is the proud nan of three grandchildren and owner of two West Highland Terriers called Jock and Lassie. Anne enjoys reading storybooks with her grandchildren. These moments have given Anne an appreciation of what appeals to younger readers and insights into what matters in their worlds. For about a year Anne and Terry enjoyed the company of their grandson Ollie, who lived with them on the island during that time. With Ollie’s active encouragement, Anne has written this book so other children can share in the fun of living with Jock and Lassie.
