Jupiter: Don’t cry Shorty, they’re not going to kick you out just like that. No, they won’t do that. We’ve known you for almost eighty years. They can’t do that. Can they, Mister Sun?
Sun: I’m sorry. That’s what I have to say; Pluto, you are no longer a planet of the solar system.
Pluto: But, but, but…
Earth: Wait a minute — how can they do this? What about all of the textbooks on earth, and the encyclopedias, and those thousands of children who are making models of the solar system? What are they going to tell them?
Mars: They are going to tell them that Pluto is no longer a planet. What part of NO longer a planet of the solar system, don’t you understand?
Venus: I agree. If he isn´t like us — then he shouldn’t be in the same system.
Mercury: Actually it’s very good news. We are finally upgrading the requirements. If we don’t do this, any asteroid, meteor or comet will want in, and no, that wouldn’t be right.
ESPAÑOL
Júpiter: No llores chaparro, ni modo que te saquen así nomás. Eso no lo van a hacer. Si te conocemos desde hace casi ochenta años. ¿Verdad que no pueden, señor Sol?
Sol: Me da mucha tristeza, pero sí. Si, y eso es lo que te tengo que decir. Plutón, ya no eres un planeta del sistema solar.
Plutón: Pero, pero, pero…
Tierra: Pero… ¿cómo que lo sacan? Y, y, y... los libros de texto de la Tierra, las enciclopedias, los miles de niños que están haciendo su maqueta del sistema solar, y los maestros de las escuelas... ¿qué van a decir?
Marte: Van a decir que ya no es un planeta reconocido porque no cumple con los requisitos. ¿Qué es lo que no captas?
Venus: Es cierto, si no es como nosotros, no debería de formar parte del mismo sistema.
Mercurio: De hecho, esa es una buena noticia. Por fin, nos estamos refinando. Si no se toman medidas como estas, al rato cualquier meteoro o cometa va a querer formar parte de nuestro medio. Y eso, pues, no. No estaría bien.

About the Book
ABOUT THE BOOK Pluto and the Universe is a book that contains a play in ENGLISH AND SPANISH and that could be read and/or staged by a minimum of ten and a maximum of seventeen, children, teens and adults alike. Intended for young audiences who not only will see and hear the characters who share outer space with Pluto, but will also reflect upon their place in the world and the importance of belonging, or not, to a particular group. With astronomical data and a story about an element who is expelled from the “system”, spectators and readers are witnesses to an anecdote that is not so distant or different from one a human being can have here on Earth. The play takes place in 2006 (year on earth) in and around the solar system. The Sun has called for an alignment in order to inform the nine planets of the three recent requirements for classifying as a planet of the solar system. Firstly, they must orbit the Sun, secondly, have a spheroid shape and also clear their orbital environment. The audience will learn how all of the planets meet these requirements, except for Pluto who is not willing to go. He must meet Charon, Halley’s Comet, an asteroid, a star and the Oort Cloud in order to comprehend the importance of being unique and a necessary part of this wonderful place called, the Universe.
Plutón y el Universo es un libro que contiene una obra de teatro en INGLÉS Y EN ESPAÑOL ideal para un mínimo de diez actores y un máximo de diecisiete. Podrá ser leída y/o puesta en escena por niños, jóvenes y adultos. Dirigida a un público de niños y jóvenes que no sólo verán y escucharán a los personajes que comparten el espacio exterior con Plutón, también reflexionarán sobre su lugar en el mundo y la importancia de pertenecer o no, a un grupo en particular. Con datos astronómicos y una historia de un integrante que es expulsado de su lugar, podrán ser testigos de una anécdota que no es tan lejana o distinta a la de un humano en la Tierra. La obra se desarrolla en el año 2006 (de los terrícolas) en el sistema solar y sus alrededores. El Sol ha citado a los nueve planetas a una alineación ya que debe informarles acerca de los tres nuevos requerimientos para poder ser un planeta del sistema solar. Deberán orbitar al Sol, ser esféricos y despejar las inmediaciones de su órbita. El público se entera de cómo y porque todos cumplen, menos Plutón, que tendrá que dejar de llamarse el noveno planeta del sistema solar. Este no acepta y deberá de conocer a Caronte, al Cometa Halley, a un asteroide, a una estrella y a la gran Nube de Oort para comprender la importancia de ser único y necesario en este grandioso espacio llamado, Universo.

Fabiola Johnson La Rue is a choreographer, director and playwright Fabiola Johnson was born in 1961 in Mexico City and educated in Los Angeles, California. She is a wife and mother of three and currently directs her theatre workshop Taller de Artes Escénicas La Rue and company of actors in San Juan del Río, Querétaro. This group has presented the play Pluto and the Universe on various stages in Queretaro and in FECUMA; Art festival in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco and was invited to act in the Planetarium Luis Enrique Erro in Mexico City during Science Week 2011. In Mexico, she continues to teach theatre classes, direct and write plays in both Spanish and English. Pluto and the Universe is the first play she has published.
Es coreógrafa, directora teatral y dramaturga. Nace en México, Distrito Federal en 1961 y es educada en Los Angeles, California. Es casada y madre de tres hijas. Actualmente dirige el Taller de Artes Escénicas La Rue y el Grupo Teatral La Rue en San Juan del Río, Querétaro. Dicho grupo ha presentado la obra Plutón y el Universo en varios foros de Querétaro y en el festival cultural FECUMA 2011 en Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco. Imparte clases de teatro, dirige y escribe obras de teatro en español y en inglés. Plutón y el Universo es la primera obra que publica.
