LEARNING TO APPLY BOOK FOUR

The present project analyses the role of the judges in the evaluation of the National Science and Technology Fair. Exactly what do they do? What criteria are used to analyze research reports?

The study will cope with some of the elements pertaining the Annual Science and Technology Fair as developed in each educational circuit, region and finally, as a whole country event. We are interested in examining the matter inmediatly since we know that West College High School will soon announce the annual internal fair, which is prior to the regional and national competitions.

This research is important, owing to the fact that the students of West College High School participate in the internal fair, but the winners go on to the circuit, the region and hopefully to the national level. The group has participated in former fairs, without a clear understanding of the role of the judges. It is very important to understand the roles and rules, since our work will be eventually submitted to the consideration of this group. The results of our project will be shared with our fellow students, a situation that will help them better the presentation and defense of their work.

The project was planned in consultation with Professor H.G. Higueras, who gave us some very useful tips, and assisted us in our whereabouts. We did not find any useful book in the library relating to our subject, but we did locate the bylaws and guides of the Local Fair, as published by the Ministry of Education. For that reason, we consider our work to be original and useful, since it will extract from the said bylaws and guides, elements concerning the subject.
