It seemed like a dream assignment for one of The Orange County Records brightest, most ambitious editor stuck the publisher's son under his wing and teach the kid how to fly in the downdrafts and crosswinds of daily journalism. At first, the young heir-apparent shows an amazing appetite for the Big Story no matter if it means betraying a few friends along the way. But then the kid discovers a truly amazing yarn, one that's a shoo-in for a Pulitzer: a local pharmaceutical company's illicit pursuit of techniques that will extend human life indefinitely. And its secret Central American laboratory where hapless human test subjects are casually dispatched and dissected.
But then the story and the editor's life begin to spiral out of control as he discovers double-crosses within double-crosses, and discovers that the naive young man is really an accomplished manipulator with a taste for more than one perfect murder. And now, the editor realizes, he's in the cross-hairs.
About the Author
Richard E. Cheverton spent more than three decades in various aspects of daily journalism, including radio, TV, magazines and newspapers. He has also worked as a speechwriter in three political campaigns. He served in 1968-69 in the US Army in Vietnam. He is married and lives in the Los Angeles area.
