About the Book
It may well be true that one man's meat is another man's poison. If it is, and if we really believe that, we ought to be a whole lot more tolerant of the indescribably anti-social, disreputable antics the other wretch is up to. Of course, that's out of the question. Years of indoctrination have crushed us into a corner, scrubbed our sensibilities clean and left us with a personal ethic scrupulously pure. It occurred to me over time, though, that it might be fun to wear out the soles of the other guy's shoes for a spell. The result was that I wrote a series of fourteen short stories loosely based on the seven virtues and seven vices that for want of a better way to cling them together I called Seven-a-Side. I tacked on a handful of other tales that have no bearing on anything at all other than my own wickedness. The latter comprise the Other Curiosities. They're all meant to entertain. If you find yourself enlightened, go for it. As much as anything, I suppose, its a romp through the English language and its possibilities. You don't have to worry about the kids finding it. They've already decided you're a lunatic. Enjoy.
