About the Author
Debrah Harris-Johnson works with parents and teens to help them help themselves and gain a more respectful understanding of each other. She is the author of one of a most influential self-help guide geared to both African American youth and their parents, titled: The African American Teenagers Guide to Personal Growth, Health, Safety, Sex and Survival: Living and Learning in the 21st Century (Amber Books, Phoenix, AZ). Her book has been featured in Ebony Magazine and was selected as a Book-on-Tape by the Library of Congress (2004). She is a certified Parent Educator and an instructor/workshop facilitator for Effective Black Parenting, under the auspices of the Center for the Improvement of Child Caring (Studio City, CA). She also facilitates and has written guides for: The Parent Part of Grandparenting and Ways to Be a Better Babysitter. A native Washingtonian, the mother of two, a grandmother and a neighborhood Mom of many, Debrah and her husband Leland currently reside in Prince George's County Maryland.
