About the Book

Dragonfly Dreaming is a new kind of memoir. Written in the poem-like prose of a child’s voice, these 24 stories on slumber parties, piano lessons, and the totalitarian terrors of junior high form pieces in the puzzle of how our hearts get broken and the imaginative ways we put them back together. The author confronts adult issues such as domestic abuse, environmentalism, feminism, and rites of passage with a child’s humor and strength of spirit that is ultimately redemptive. Dragonfly Dreaming covers new ground by lending the reader her eyes, and an extra set of wings, just in case.

About the Author

Laura Elizabeth Dragonfly, M.S., has been writing since childhood, when she pasted her third-grade picture to “About the Author” sections on the backs of her notebooks. She grew up in the forests of Oregon, where her best friends were trees and books. A former wildlife biologist, editor, and nature poet, she lives in Hawaii with her husband. Laura’s goal is to once again see the world through the multiple lenses of childhood. Included at the end of this volume are five stories written during the author’s own adolescence, further enabling readers to inhabit the minds and bodies we once knew.
