About the Book
“Some Forever, All for Better” is a line adapted from “In My Life” by the Beatles, who wrote many lyrics about places to remember and special places like Penny Lane. Places have their meanings. I wrote this book to exercise my memory, and to see these places through the eyes of the child, the teenager, and the adult. I also wrote for my children, hoping that these reflections might provide knowledge or understanding of their father’s life-an insight I never gained from my father.
About the Author
David Waters, born in China, was educated in England at Stonyhurst and Oxford University. He first came to New Hampshire in 1955 on a teaching program, but after additional courses at Oxford and two years in Cyprus he returned to teach in secondary schools in Connecticut, Wisconsin, and Louisiana, and at universities in Georgia, Mississippi, and England. He has also worked for thirty-five years as a consultant, reader, and examiner for the College Board. His loves include both Annes for their understanding, and his children, Mark, Jonathan, and Susannah for their remarkable spirit and achievements far surpassing his own. His pleasures have involved colleagues, students, travel, good newspapers, reading, and the serendipities and ironies of his life.
