About the Book
This book is about Coactlatl, a young Mayan man; a priest, warrior, and oldest son of a village chieftain. It takes place during the height of Mayan civilization, in what is now known as Guatemala. The village, like many others, is completely dependent on the Usumacinta River. Unusual weather causes the river to flood so drastically that the priests determine human sacrifice must be made. Because of his rank and spiritual purity, Coactlatl is chosen. Through his determination, Coactlatl lives. This book chronicles his adventures, travels, and, most of all, his special bond with the Usumacinta.
