Ceder's Saga

About the Book

This autobiography is divided into five parts. The first bit deals with the vagaries of a small boy with a search into the past. The tales of my grandmother and stories from my mother’s knee provide a beginning for my quest. Father passed down stories, but they lack completion. Most recently I acquired a journal of John Peter Ceder.

The second part deals with my time in service with the 45th Thunderbirds and the 88th Blue Devils. Time in combat was with the Blue Devils as a light machine gunner and Browning Automatic Rifleman. We were committed at Monte Cassino and made the push to Rome and through the Apennines to the Brenner Pass.

The third passage is the Wanderjahr. Summer school at Blindern Studenterhejm and a year at Stockholm’s Hogskola preceeded my bicycle trip in ’50 south to Cannes and north through France and Holland. The final leg of my journey was a channel crossing at Dunkirk, north to Canterbury and London and a stroll in the Highlands.

The lengthy bit is Teacher on the roof. This includes summer jaunts and time spent at the university of kentucky. The summation is about my retirement years in rural Indiana and local home folk.
