About the Book

What happens in the sanctuary, behind the altar, at Saint Mary's has profound effect upon the children of the parish, which is the focus of life in Garden Park. It is where Maggie Konrad and her six brothers and sisters, along with the children of the village, learn that the innocence of a child, when bound by overbearing parochial oppression, and hypocrisy, can cripple confidence and sometimes lead to dramatic rebellious acts.

Michael Konrad and the people of St. Mary's parish maintain a rigid resistance to compassion for the children, thus evolves "secret" trusts regarding molestation's, suicide, homosexuality and rebellious upheavals.

About the Author

A Long Island native, with a degree in Health Care Administration, most of thirty years were invested in a nursing career in the medical/surgical units of psychiatric centers. Cornell University studies in Labor Relations paved the way toward Union Organizing, and a Grievance Representative, Executive Board Member of the New York State Public Employees Federation. Retirement afforded the luxury of attending courses in creative writing, having several articles published in Rving Women magazine and finding myself one of the genre short story winners in the latest Writer's Digest writing competition. SECRETS is my first attempted novel.
