About the Author

Kirk Hammond is a native of Virginia. His formal education was in Hampden-Sydney College (BA Magna cum laude 1939) and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond (BD 1942). 59 years of varied and rewarding ministry has provided an informal educatioin of immeasurable value in writing this book. Ordained May 31,1942 as a Presbyterian minister, he served mountain churches near Hot Springs, Va., followed by a pastorate in a steel mill area east of Baltimore. 1950 - called as Superintendent of Home Missons and Church Extension for Potomac Presbytery and served as organizing pastor for six new churches. He produced five motion pictures in support of missions. With his support, his wife and four children produced the weekly "Treasure Chest" television program for three years in Baltimore. 1958 - General Presbyter for Montgomery Presbytery (75 churches in 12 county mountainous area of southwest Virginia). Developed "Boat In" worship ministry on Claytor Lake. 1965 - Television Director for TRAV (Television, Radio and Audio-Visual agency of the Presbyterian Church US). His major "writing" efforts and "publishing" have been visual with films in which he was fully involved in the production of ten half-hour motion pictures, over 100 television spots, numerous slide programs and promo stills 1974 - Florida - Associate Pastor - 12 interim relationships after "retiring" in 1980!
