About the Book

Sammy is a sparrow who spends his days happily playing with his friends in the Southwest. One of their favorite games is racing from a cactus to a special painted rock. One day, Sammy is shocked when he is beaten by an unfamiliar creature. Come race along with Sammy as he discovers something new in his world!

About the Author

Valerie A. Nichols has been a freelance writer and teacher in both Wisconsin and Arizona. She is currently teaching 7th grade at Luke Elementary School which is right next to Luke Air Force Base. Every day, she watches Sammy and the jets race! Margie Segress has been an illustrator and graphic designer in Chicago, Seattle, and the Phoenix area. Besides illustrating children’s books, she enjoys drawing for her son, George, and with her husband, Jon.
