About the Book

This book is the result of the author’s reexamination of his religious faith. It began with his attempt to answer a seemingly simple question for one of his Sunday school pupils. It became an endeavor that caused him to rethink his concept of God, religion, the church and the Scriptures.

The author’s philosophy concerning religion, borrowed from Xenophenes, is twofold. First, no one has all the answers. Each of us could come up with a theory about God and creation, and even if only one person on Earth got it absolutely correct, even he wouldn’t know it. Religious theory is based upon faith. Second, as we grow in knowledge, we should also expand and refine our religious concepts.

This book is intended to encourage religious maturity. Some of the conclusions reached may cause concern in some circles. For instance, the author feels that the portrayal of Jesus as a blood sacrifice is distorted, perhaps totally wrong. Why would a God, who considered child sacrifice an abomination, sacrifice His own son, and to whom? The author’s concepts of an infinite God may seem mind-boggling to many. Whether you agree or disagree with the ideas expressed by the author, you will certainly benefit from the reexamination of your own philosophy.

About the Author

Lowell Mckinney’s life experience covers a wide range. As a boy, he developed a great love and respect for nature while exploring the picturesque environment of the mountains and valleys near his home. His mother, a devoutly religious and conscientious person, had a great influence on his life. Throughout his life, he has applied the ethical principles and moral/ethical values he learned from her. He served in the U.S. Air Force in 1959 to 1980, retiring at the rank of Major. While stationed at Albrook Air Force Base, Canal Zone, Major McKinney taught Sunday school at the Base Chapel.
