About the Book

Thunderheads and Rainbows revels in thrilling action as Lillian, a beautiful Southern belle, betrays Union soldiers in a little-known but bloody Civil War battle. You’ll visit scenic Silverton, Colorado, where a faithful burro, Spam, and his master mine for gold and silver in the rugged Rockies. Denver’s Gaylord Street is a gathering place for school pals in the early, dark days of World War II. You’ll marvel as a coach guides his deaf players through a game and you’ll empathize with “Kim” as she matures through the tribulations of her softball team. You’ll laugh at the author’s attempt to “blue” a white cat in a washing machine and you’ll chuckle as a boy struggles to commit a poem to memory, using a tree as his mentor.

When a Florida family decides to build an outdoor pool, little do they realize the complexities of the endeavor, which ends in disaster. The author can only guess what happened in “The Mystery of the Anasazi” of  southwestern Colorado. “The Little Canoe” makes an epic, 200-year journey down the Colorado River. When Cody’s beloved puppy disappears, he goes searching for him on a rollicking railroad journey through the Rockies.

Jim didn’t fit with the high school clique and one of his friends discovers why in this poignant tale. Jimmy loved building World War II aircraft models, but one day, his newly crafted Spitfire takes off for …? A family’s weekend fishing trips into the Colorado Rockies teach brother and sister the values of patience, persistence and love.

Air action over Belgium during World War II sends a B-17 Flying Fortress down in flames and her crew into a series of adventures that end in rescue, joy and a new-found love.

And, in a novella for younger readers, Scotty’s dreams transport him back to the cruel reality of World War II at the exact hour the Germans invade Poland, and he’s caught up with a Polish family fleeing the fury of the Blitzkrieg. He falls in love with Tevi, but a series of dangerous misadventures separates them until the lovers are reunited away from the fury of war.

Thunderheads and Rainbows is seasoned with many of the author’s prize-winning poems.
