About the Book

City girl, country girl.

Shirelle Wisdom lives in Dallas, owns a successful computer business and works hard at being a good Christian and, she hopes, a novelist.

Kathy Penfield lives in Thurman, Kansas.  Her husband runs a computer business too, specializing in finding missing people.  Her closest connection to religion happens when she gets caught naked in the bushes with the teenaged son of a preacher.

Shirelle’s life seems eminently in order; her biggest struggle is trying to lose ten pounds.  And then one day a mysterious man named Jay Murray comes to her office to discuss customized law office software…and he turns out to be a field agent of the CIA.

Before too long, Jay Murray—who pays more attention to Shirelle than she feels comfortable with—lets it be known that he needs someone who does exactly the kind of work that her old acquaintance Jake Penfield does.  The timing couldn’t be better, because Kathy, always a wild one, has gone too far in her sexual adventuring and the two of them, along with her three teenaged children, are going to have to leave rural Kansas, if she can even manage to beat the various charges her “incident” with the preacher’s  boy brought down upon her.

Add an ambitious young Texas politician, a plot to discredit Shirelle’s husband, and a mysterious lady from the South to the mix, and the Heartland sizzles
