About the Book
Mary Elizabeth relates the Hamilton family's journey from Kentucky to Nebraska by wagon train in the 1880's. This true story of pioneer experiences is related in ten-year-old Mary Elizabeth Hamilton's journal. Mary Elizabeth left her journal with a country doctor after her family and the wagon train were devastated by a small pox epidemic after crossing the Missouri River into Nebraska.
About the Author
Dr. Laura Shepherd Lewis grew up in the sleepy river town of Rulo, Nebraska and reveled in the stories her grandfather Shepherd, a rural country doctor, told about the area. Always a pioneer, Laura became an Army nurse during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. After getting married and starting a family, she decided to further her education and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1968. After enjoying a long professional career Laura is enjoying semi-retirement in New Mexico where she has had time to write the stories she has told and cherished over the years.
