About the Book

Body Hate: a Gay Man’s Struggle with Multiple Sclerosis is a rarity--an insider look at a gay man’s nightmare with a disease known as MS. Though other books may detail the effects and pain of dealing with this incurable and debilitating condition, this book will always have the special ground-breaking position of being FIRST! No other work shows the world of a young gay musician who suffers torments he never anticipated and could not prepare himself to face. The cover artwork is created by Mr. Cate. It is a mask of his face during a severe exacerbation of MS. The book also features a Foreword by Dr. William Russo, Professor at Curry College in Milton, MA.

About the Author

This is the story of William Cate who was a punk rocker from Boston, on the verge of having his band reach a recording contract and a bright future in music. He was suddenly and abruptly felled by the mysterious MS, an ever-lurking disease which strikes with devastating effect. This book recounts Bill Cate’s gay lifestyle: a world of dance, music, and nightlife in Boston’s gay clubs of the 1990s, as well as his alternative life as a punk rocker. He participated in the burgeoning Pummel Core scene of that decade. Cate is a film-maker, writer, and musician who makes his home in the Greater Boston area.
