About the Book
Written for readers aged 16 and up, the illustrated book begins with the question—why are we experiencing a glut of corporate and governmental misconduct in America? John Mowen argues that because leaders can be good or bad (e.g., Churchill or Hitler), we should develop Beacons rather than leaders. Beacons responsibly inspire themselves and others to achieve noble goals that benefit, not only their organizations, but also society. Based upon ten years of research, Beyond Leadership identifies principles not previously recognized, such as the importance of developing outstanding decision-making skills, inspiring creativity, and managing emotions. Dr. Mowen then provides readers with succinctly and clearly written procedures for implementing and using the principles in your work and personal lives. In order to help readers remember the principles, they are summarized in the acronym “GREAT ROCK.” Finally, taking the creativity mandate to heart, Dr. Mowen created 26 color illustrations and 26 haikus to help readers remember and use the principles on a daily basis.
