About the Author
Carolyn Emmett began writing and reading her poetry in the 1950’s in New York City. In the 60’s she earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. She went to live in California and continued her poetry activities at libraries in San Francisco, teaching children poetry writing and poetry reading. She taught poetry at Berkeley High School. Returning to New York, she received a Master’s degree in Asian Studies at Seton Hall University. She resumed writing and reading her poems in New York City. She taught a Poetry Workshop with Howard Sage at The Open Center at New York University. In 1973, Carolyn and Howard put together a small book of poems illustrated by Karen-Marie titled Tides for Sun and Shade. She moved to Rockland County where she helped to form The Rockland Poets. She led poetry group workshops and reading programs of the Rockland Poets in the libraries and book stores. She read a poem for the first Women’s month with Women Poets at Rockland Community College. Carolyn has published 50 poems, most about people, relationships, nature, and her personal self development as an independent woman.
