About the Author

In the middle of the 18th century a small group of Kelleys left their hometown of Kilmarnock, Scotland, and set sail for America. They ended up on a little piece of land in Virginia which they settled and name for their old hometown—Kilmarnock. Today there are eight generation Kelleys still living in Kilmarnock, VA. Wallace Kelley was born in Fitzgerald, GA, on 15 October, 1914, the last of 10 children. His father, Alfred Falconer Kelley, was the superintendent of the cotton mill in Fitzgerald. Wallace spent several years in California (Los Angeles) and one happy year in Nevada where he worked in the office of a tungsten mine. In 1952 Wallace received a law degree from the University of South Carolina. In a few years, he and his wife went to Washington, D.C., where they worked for the US government. While waiting for his government job to come through, Wallace worked for one year at a large cemetery. He and has wife for the government until they retired around 1979. They spent a happy retirement in the Middleburg, VA, where they had a small horse farm. Wallace died on Good Friday in 1995 and was buried on Easter Sunday. He was buried in South Carolina.
