About the Author

H. BEN AVON has authored children’s stories, bio-portraits, poetry and travel articles for a variety of publications. THE ALLEGEHENY CIRCLE is his second full-length novel. It follows THE BIG BOTCH and a second book, ATTRACTION, a collection of short stories and a novella. In this latest work Mr. Avon invites a group of reasonably well-to-do wives to take part in a chancy scheme as a way to add excitement to their summer-time lives. The tale is set toward the end of the last century, when life was a little less serious than it is today. What begins as a lark takes on a more sinister aspect as unexpected pitfalls develop in a not-entirely-innocent plan to gain an off-the-record profit. The people and places are drawn from life as experienced by the author who has been fortunate to meet a wide cross-section of humanity as he has poked around some interesting parts of the world. Just as few places on earth are entirely Gardens of Eden, so many of its inhabitants are not as pure as the driven snow. What tips the balance between acceptable and doubtful behavior?
