About the Book
Warm and touching in its child-like simplicity, If I Were... is a simple representation of a child´s boundless imagination where anything is possible. Sarah depicts her imagination and innocence as she portrays in vibrant color the animals and things that captured her prolific imagination. She brings her imagination to vivid life with cute, sometimes interesting, and sometimes funny descriptions of animals that include flamingoes and hippos, flowers and fruit, as well as the common elements of nature like sky, tree, and snow. Sarah drops her last line like a bomb with a pleasantly surprising display of her sense of self as she recognizes a person´s need for a distinct identity at her age.
About the Author
About the Author: Sarah Poppo was born in New York in 1999. She wrote this poem in May, 2006 when she was seven. She currently lives with her parents and younger sister, Kaitlyn, in Virginia. She is a typical kid who loves to play outside and be with her friends. Her favorite subject in school is social studies. Book’s Purpose: Sarah Poppo was seven when she wrote this poem for me (her mother) for Mother’s Day. She asked me what I wanted and I told her I wanted something she made. As soon as I read it I knew it would make a great children’s book. I wanted it published for two reasons. 1) To forever show her how proud I am of her. 2) To inspire in her and others a passion for writing, reading, and creating.
