About the Author

The author was born in the Midwest (Kansas City, Kansas), and lived in the rural country area of western Missouri during his early years. His family moved to Florida when he was thirteen, and he has called that home ever since. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, including service in Vietnam with both the 3rd Marine Division, and the 1st Marine Division; he also served twenty years in the Florida National Guard before retiring from it in 1998. Besides his part time service with the National Guard, he was also a full time Law Enforcement Offi cer for thirty-one years. Started out as a patrolman with a medium sized city police department in Leesburg, Florida, then moved to the west coast and worked for the Pasco County Sheriff’s Department, before moving to a larger Sheriff’s department on the east coast. He served for 23 years with the Volusia County Sheriff‘s Department. During this time he has received several awards including the Florida Cross from the National Guard, The Medal of Valor from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department, and the Medal of Valor from the Florida Sheriff’s Association. Having retired from law enforcement in 2009 he has spent much of his time doing genealogy research, working with his church, and traveling when the opportunity arises.
