About the Book
CAUGHT IN A STORM: Sweetsea’s Story is about a family of seagulls off the east coast of Nova Scotia who are looking for shelter from a storm. Hungry and tired from flying, Sweetsea hitches a ride with her brother, but soon ends up alone in the ocean with her family flying away. But miraculously,Sweetsea has caught a large herring. Now she must decide what to do-–eat the fish now, which she would not have to share with the family, or drop it and try to catch up with the others. She swallows it whole, but then finds she cannot fly. What will she do and what will happen to her? Read the story to find out.
About the Author
I was born and raised in a small fishing village (outport) in northeastern Newfoundland. I grew up without television, and would read whatever I could get my hands on. I left home when I was only sixteen to finish high school and did not live with my parents again. Before becoming a high school teacher, I traveled abroad and lived in several different countries. As a teacher and mother, I was always interested in books, especially in children's books. When my children were young, I created and told them stories like this one, which they loved. I want others, including my grandchild, to enjoy them as well.
