About the Book

Raynette Eitel writes poetry because it comes as naturally to her as breathing…and she says, “I write because I MUST.” She has published four books prior to this one, Harsh Country, Earthen Jar, Preludes to an Hallelujah Chord, and My Heart Sings, all published by XLibris. She has received various awards for her poetry. Among these were winning first place for her poem, “At the Irish Pub,” in a Senior Poet Laureate contest in 2011, and first place in the Dancing Poetry contest, where she sat, awestruck, to watch the words of her poem, “Imagine the Harvest,” being danced on stage in San Francisco. Raynette grew up in the Southwest and is a graduate of Colorado College and the University of Colorado. She was a teacher, wife, and mother in Colorado Springs, but always she was a poet. After retiring in Las Vegas, Nevada, Raynette has most enjoyed her time with the Writers” Workshop in Sun City Summerlin, has given poetry workshops from time to time, and has taken the stage to recite such poems as “The Day the Planes Quit Flying.” (A memorial to 9/11) She looks forward to another month’s stay at Friday Harbor, on San Juan Island, Washington in the summer of 2015, where she will enjoy the simplicity of island life and the delight of morning sun coming in through layers of fog to give her a soft pink beginning to the day.

About the Author

Although Raynette Eitel lives in Las Vegas, far from the sea, she makes the trek across the desert to the Pacific Ocean as often as she can. She and her husband love best visiting islands where they get a new look at life by the sea, whether it be Pacific, Caribbean, or other distant lands. If you have felt the call of the sea, you will no doubt enjoy this variety of poems telling of the sights, sounds, customs of life by the sea and the unique ways of island people. Here is offered pieces of rainbows above the sea, the language of birds as they follow the shore, and the colorful kites that fly the skies above the beach. You may recapture your own childhood moments in the sand castles and bonfires on the beach, and yes, you may be taken back to your first cruise across the nighttime sea. And perhaps this collection of poems will lead you to write your own poetry about your love for the sea.
