A love Sonnet from “Tom - the Cat” A Neighbour’s Tale Can I compare thee to a feckless whore? You called at him with obscene howls He pushed his tabby head through our cat door And ate the food in our cat bowls. He prowled all conquering round the flat, You growled subservient to his will He climbed triumphant on your back And left you calling from the sill. We sometimes see him in the garden, Ignoring you as you grow fat He has a pretty torty in his harem The lover soon of every female cat. But in June we will have kittens three For me to pet upon my knee.
