About the Book

SHADOWS AND THE LIGHT is an extensive work near to the genre of paraphrased Scripture though, more specifically, it is a Companion to the Bible. The style is unique in that it consists of the testimonies of Biblical characters who tell their stories in poetic form. Commencing in Genesis, the Creation Poem makes way for the "primeval parents" to give some explanations for their Biblical records. Characters then step up, in their turn, throughout the narrative-many enlightened, others clinging to the shadows. At strategic times in the discourses, God intervenes. His utterances bring encouragement, challenge, moral guidance and spiritual illumination or, in dire circumstances: counsel, discipline, judgement, condemnation. The poetic format allows for underlying human character to emerge, disclosing aspects of ancient Biblical History otherwise not easily determined. The Scripture provides the rock face, SHADOWS AND THE LIGHT brings the surrounding scenery into sharp focus via the poetic lens. In this volume, the entire Bible is traversed in three sections: Genesis to the Wisdom books, The Prophets: Major and Minor, and the New Testament. Four great themes bring the multifarious segments together: Reason - Rupture - Redemption - Renewal. By these implicit themes, a panoramic view of Scripture may be observed.
