We human beings navigate our existence yearning for certainty, wishing to know the universe, to understand and manipulate it, and to ensure for ourselves an infinite future that becomes impossible to reach but no less desirable for that. We spend our lives attempting to tell ourselves stories that will offer us some safety within the uncertainty of our destiny. This is why from childhood we tell stories about immortality, superpowers, the existence of God, magical beings that reward at us in Christmas if we are “well behaved”, fairies that take our teeth leaving us a reward for losing a part of ourselves, mythical beings that impose themselves upon our boring reality and searching for any possibility to control the life that is thrust upon us with so many dilemmas, mysteries, and uncertainties that we cannot fully understand, no matter how many stories we tell (…) It is not in complete uncertainty, nor in the capacity to know the truth, that human beings truly find ourselves. It is right in the middle, between those two poles. We acknowledge how finite we are, how little we know and, nevertheless, we have our gaze set on infinity, we yearn for eternity, we wish for truth.
