About the Author

Steve Herl is a husband, a father, a grandfather, a businessman, a coach, a teacher and an elder. He was born in 1951, in Washington D.C. and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. After graduating from Mt. Vernon High School in 1969, Steve played football at Virginia Tech and graduated in 1973. After student teaching at Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, he accepted a position as a math teacher, football coach, basketball coach and tennis coach at Gar-Field. Even though he left the teaching profession in 1978 to go into the real estate development business, Steve continued to teach math and coach basketball and tennis as a volunteer at Fredericksburg Christian School, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He still helps coach the golf team at FCS. Steve became a Christian shortly after his daughter, Lindsay was born and began teaching a Bible study in his home shortly thereafter. He has served as the Senior Warden at Church of the Messiah Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg and has been an elder in several other local churches over the years. Steve currently is serving as the teaching elder and worship leader at Winding Creek Community Church in Stafford, Virginia. He enjoys baseball, basketball, football, golf and tennis and loves to spend time with his grandchildren, Kahlan, Avery, and William. Steve is married to Karen Pencoff Herl, and they have a yellow lab named Nico and a grand dog named JoJo.
